Blogging and Micro blogging social networks were a buzz this week with the Dropping of the F Bomb by a presenter Mark Esterhuysen on 702, What he said

Presenter: “It’s just past one o’clock.”

Cue introduction music: “This is Eyewitness News”

Mark Esterhuysen: “Good morning. *clears throat* I’m Mark Esterhuysen. Fuck racism. Fuck the pigs who killed Andries Tatane. Fuck the AWB. Fuck racism. We are all wild animals meant to live free. *speeds up* Fuck capitalism. Fuck fascism. Fuck this fucking wage-slavery graveyard shit. Fuck domestication.

Following his rant he was escorted off the Primedia property by security guards  and in a slew of articles that followed his on air suicidal resignation, Mark reported that he had no regrets and that he will never be a slave of capitalism. According to Eyewitness News editor-in chief, Katy Katopodis, the controller, producer and call screener all froze for some time before cutting off Esterhuysen, who by then had managed to use the F-word about four times. EWN News editor Katy Katapodis had to do plenty of damage control the following day and obviously distance the Stations reputation from the Madness of Mark Esterhuysen. 

In one of the many articles, Mark mentioned the following

“I’m all about freedom of expression,” he explained on Tuesday afternoon. “But I felt censored. I don’t appreciate the fact that a lot of corporate media organisations are slaves to capitalism. Primedia is a corporation at the end of the day. They don’t actually give a fuck about the man on the street.”

Esterhuysen said he was “paid peanuts so the head honchos could live in big houses”.

“I felt like the corporation made me a wage slave for their benefit. So I figured fuck them. I would use them as a platform for my views.”

I don't think his rant had anything to do with getting followers from any social media networks as Katy Katapodis mentioned, even though his social profile has been boosted already with a spin off advert from 1time poking fun that was unintentional. I think its sad that he felt that way and focused his energy in such a negative way to express how he felt, I obviously don't know the circumstances of his situation or his relationship with Primedia bosses all too well but I think if he felt disillusioned and that he was stagnating the way he was with his bullshit salary he could've opted to renegotiate the terms of his contract or maybe even move into a different area of journalism that allows him to more creatively express his talent. I think he fucked up a good opportunity and as much as he is saying he isn't, will regret in years to come.

The new Thundercats that recently premiered is a reboot of the successful 80's animated series that spawned an awesome range of action figure collectables.The writers of the new series have remained very close to the original storyline and have expanded and gone in deeper detail with all the main characters that we so fondly looked forward to watching when we were kids.

The season premier is an hour long (41 minutes without adverts) and starts of as a prequel which tells the origins of the Thundercats and the Sword of Omens. The series is produced by Warner Bros and the animation is done by Japanese Company Studio 4 and is very easy on the eyes. The Thundercats universe has an amazing mythology which is told with a similar dramatic style as  Lord of the Rings  and Star Wars albeit in a very simplified and in a fluid way, the creators have given character exploration such strong focus that each character in the series could eventually have their own origins series.

Needless to say, the series is appealing to viewers of all ages and still maintains an essence of 80's cheesyness.One thing that you have to be warned about though, is that series has been given an overhaul in terms of its storyline, having watched 7 of the eight episodes so far, I'm still waiting for how this storyline ties in with the old one.
